The Egyptian Swiss Group for Pasta, Milling, and Concentrates announced the acceleration of its steps toward sustainable transformation by launching an integrated six-pillar strategy to reduce its carbon footprint and cut emissions over a five-year period. This initiative falls within the framework of its commitment to global environmental standards, enhancing the competitiveness of its products, and growing its exports in international markets. This is particularly targeted at European markets, which impose increasing environmental compliance requirements as a fundamental condition for product entry.
Eng. Ahmed El-Sebaei, General Manager of the Egyptian Swiss Group, stated that the Group has already begun preparing detailed carbon footprint reports covering its various activities, including milling, pasta, and concentrates. The objective is to accurately measure the volume of emissions and develop practical plans to reduce them over the coming years.
El-Sebaei explained that these reports were prepared in accordance with international standards and have been reviewed and certified by specialized entities to ensure their compliance with global regulatory frameworks. This step enhances the Group’s readiness to address new environmental requirements.
Furthermore, El-Sebaei noted that the Group is closely monitoring the developments of the European Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), which requires companies to disclose their emissions and adhere to specific limits. He emphasized that although the food industry sector has not yet announced its specific carbon footprint limits, the Group is fully prepared to comply as soon as the new regulations are announced in 2031.
He added that the Group has developed a five-year emission reduction plan, which includes improving energy consumption efficiency and upgrading production lines to minimize both consumption and emissions.
